Counseling for Adults

Adult Therapy: Text

Adult therapy offers a transformative journey toward improved mental health and overall well-being. By delving into thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, individuals can develop essential coping skills, enhance self-awareness, and foster healthier relationships. Here's why therapy can be a vital component of your path to fulfillment:

  1. Improved Mental Health: Addressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD can lead to significant improvements in mental well-being.

  2. Increased Self-Awareness: Through therapy, individuals gain insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, empowering you to make healthier choices and navigate life's challenges with greater clarity.

  3. Developed Coping Skills: Learning effective strategies for managing difficult emotions and situations equips you with the resilience to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression more effectively.

  4. Improved Relationships: Enhancing interpersonal communication skills fosters stronger connections with family, friends, and partners, leading to more fulfilling relationships and meaningful connections.

  5. Achievement of Goals: Psychotherapy helps individuals set realistic goals, develop actionable plans, and overcome obstacles, paving the way for personal growth and fulfillment.

Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

In addition to talk therapy, I use EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which is a form of psychotherapy that can help individuals recover from emotional distress caused by traumatic experiences. Studies have shown that EMDR therapy can produce results that previously took years of traditional therapy to achieve. EMDR therapy is an evidence-based approach validated by over 20 randomized controlled clinical trials (see www.emdrhap.org/emdr_info/researchandresources.php).

Just as our bodies can heal from physical wounds, our minds can heal from emotional trauma. Our brain's natural information processing system moves towards mental health, but sometimes the effects of a traumatic event can block this process and cause intense suffering. EMDR therapy works to remove these blocks and activate the natural healing processes of the brain.

EMDR can help treat:

Trauma

Depression

Anxiety

Phobias

PTSD

OCD

Dissociative Disorders

Adult Therapy: About

Sand Tray therapy

Sand Tray Therapy is a great way to process trauma without reactivating it. During the therapy session, clients have control of the sand tray and create scenes from a third-person point of view, allowing them to gain insights into their mental and emotional state. The therapist facilitates and observes alongside the client, asking questions and possibly providing further insights; however, the main focus of the therapy is to help clients come up with their own solutions to the conflicts or scenarios they create.
